Mammalian cell cultures are a critical and well-established source of extracellular vesicles (EVs), particularly those isolated from conditioned medium, because they closely reflect human cellular physiology and signaling. EVs derived from mammalian cells naturally carry biologically relevant proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids that mirror the functional state of their parent cells, making them highly valuable for therapeutic, diagnostic, and mechanistic studies. Their intrinsic compatibility with human tissues enables efficient cellular uptake and precise intercellular communication, advantages that are especially important for regenerative medicine, immunotherapy, and targeted drug delivery. Moreover, mammalian cell cultures allow controlled production conditions and cell-type–specific EV isolation, while advanced cell engineering strategies enable customization of EV cargo and surface markers, enhancing specificity and translational potential despite higher production costs and scalability challenges compared to non-mammalian sources.
At HansaBioMed, our aim is to provide researchers an easy means to studying extracellular vesicles with 100+ cell lines we have access to for processing. Based on your requests, we can also work with your cell culture as a starting material.
